Books on the run
This piece explores visual storytelling through movement and character interaction, using a loose and spontaneous approach.
Created with watercolor crayons and colored pencils, the process focuses on texture, energy, and playfulness. The background is inspired by the #addcharacter2026 illustration challenge by @housecatillustration, using a photo reference of a Parisian bookshop entrance.
The scene unfolds as a chain of gentle chaos, with stories quite literally spilling out onto the street.
This illustration offered an opportunity to focus on backgrounds, layered action, and narrative composition, elements that are central to my approach to children’s book illustration.
