Bird Engravings
This series of bird illustrations explores traditional printmaking through a series of engraved studies observing different bird species.
The Northern Lapwing and Eurasian Bittern are created as etchings, where I focused on capturing the character of each bird through line and form, accompanied by small botanical elements. The Crane, also produced as an etching, allowed me to experiment further by introducing atmosphere and landscape within the composition.
The Magpie is produced using photopolymer, allowing for a different approach to tonal detail and texture. Across the series, I explored how these printmaking processes can translate observation into expressive line, texture, and tone.
